The Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers, a Watsonian scion society of the BSI was founded in July 1974 by Maureen Movshin who placed an ad in the agony column of our local newspaper. One of our founding fathers, Jim Zunic was at the first meeting at Stouffer’s Restaurant on Penn Avenue and is still a member. The great J. Bliss Austin, BSI who came to the 3rd meeting became a longtime active member until his passing.
Officers in the scion are Brigadier, Editor / Publisher, and Treasurer. The Fusiliers have their own investiture system. Members who have contributed to the group can choose their own investiture. Each year the Brigadier can award the Order of Candahar for Signal Service to the scion. Elections are held annually.
The scion’s publication is The Northumberland Dispatch which has been published monthly since 1974. Dues / membership is $15.00 annually. Meetings are in member’s homes or restaurants. There are presently (mid-2010) 30 members.
